Unspoken Love
We’ve all heard about forbidden love and unrequited love, but what about unspoken love? The bond between two people that feels kismet, yet remains unbound.
It’s the electricity without touch.
The soulful looks from across the room.
That initial meet cute that welds two souls together,
forgetting what life was before now.
When any mundane life event becomes a story to share with them.
They are the first person you think about in the morning,
and the last thought before bed.
Yet, it all goes without saying.
This is different from the secrecy of forbidden love and the devastation of unrequited love. This is the yearning and longing of every Jane Austen novel. As each glance lingers longer and the distance of separation shortens with each breath, the magnetic charge is heightened. Priorities and our beloved Time speak loudly of the bond being created as the hours spent together only end when life’s responsibilities interjecting.
“This is One Day love. Years in the making, without the physical connection.
This is the last scene in La La Land, without the history of a relationship.
This is Romeo and Juliet, without the romantic poetry.”
This is, simply put, the unspoken love between strangers, turned friends, turned lovers without a single touch.
Why, you may ask, would you leave this kind of love unspoken?
Maybe it’s timing.
The chains of insecurity.
Fear of losing them.
Or the black-and-white societal pressures.
“Whatever the reason, the desire to stay connected and bound outweighs the mutual desire to take a leap of faith.”
So, you both move with the waves of time, celebrating the milestones of life.
Your heart breaks a little and simultaneously honours as you each flow in and out of relationships. Always coming back to each other, yet only speaking with the eyes of longing and desire.
You listen to each other’s stories and wish them well, while each soul aches for more.
Then the dreaded milestone arrives.
When another’s love is spoken and the bond of matrimony unbinds the attachment,
leaving only a single thread.
A thread connected to that initial meet cute.
A strand linked to the “what ifs.”
A single and fraying fiber always connecting back to them.
“But,
life is full of surprises.
Over time, the thread turns into a beloved memory and the “what ifs” fade just like the bond.
Then one day, you go out,
and your eyes connect with someone.
The electricity without touch returns and a spark initiates a meet cute.”
But, this time, history is not repeated.
The timing, insecurities, fear, and societal pressures no longer have a hold.
That lesson has been learned.
No longer will it have a hand over your mouth.
This time, two souls create something kismet.
Two souls breathe life into a new bond.
This time,
the souls speak.
